If you turn on the news, there's a new incident or update reported about the coronavirus. However, the virus is so new and spreading so fast, a lot of people don't know about it. Here's what you need to know about coronavirus and why God's people are not afraid.

What is the Coronavirus?

The coronavirus was given its name because it has a crown-like shape. It causes respiratory illness - similar to a cold and is a cousin of the SARS virus.

How did the Coronavirus start?

The coronavirus started in the Wuhan section of China near a seafood market. Hence, researchers believe it was likely started by a bat, snake or other animal as it crossed from animal hosts to humans, according to Healthline. Coronavirus is also referred to as novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP), COVID-19 or 2019-nCoV.

Getting Treatment for Coronavirus

Treatment should be immediate as coronavirus causes pneumonia and won't respond to antibiotics. People wear masks because the coronavirus can be spread airborne from person to person. A major concern though is how quickly it's spreading throughout the globe.

How Many People Have Coronavirus and How Many Have Died from Coronavirus

Deaths from the coronavirus have exceeded the number of deaths from SARS. A total of 774 died from SARS from 2002-2003 after it reached 26 countries. That's based on World Health Organization totals.

As of March 27th at 8:37 pm:

  • There are over 587,958 infections confirmed with 26,909 deaths.
  • There are 102,464 cases in the US with 1,607 total deaths, based on CDC data.
  • About 44,635 cases are in New York state and 519 deaths have occurred there.

The Holy Spirit has been saying to "rebuke the coronavirus". We rebuke the coronavirus in Jesus's name and by God's authority.

SARS Vs. Coronavirus

While the number of cases of coronavirus globally is increasing rapidly, the death rate is relatively low. The World Heath Organization analyzed 17,000 cases and found that:

    -82% of cases were mild
    -15% were considered severe
    -3% were assessed as critical

Of the 17,000 studied, the rate of death was about 2%. However, the death rate for SARS was about 9.6%.

We pray for all those suffering with the coronavirus. We pray for the Chinese and all Asians that they aren't attacked or turned away due to xenophobia (fear of a person from another country). We pray and stand firm on God's Word. God doesn't give us the spirit of fear.

God Doesn't Give us the Spirit of Fear

In Hebrews 12:22-23, we learn that we have an innumerable company of angels. In Psalm 91, we learn that God gives His angels charge over thee, meaning they guard and watch over us. And, in 2 Timothy 1:7 it reads, "For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

Psalm 27 also confirms we don't live in fear when we seek God first and have Christ in our lives. David says, "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" He then goes on to say, "I shall not fear" and "In the time of trouble He (The Lord) shall hide me." God hides us from our enemies and all evil attacks of the devil (plagues, sickness, disease, poverty, death, destruction, wrath).

The Bible also gives us important instructions in Psalm 91 to not fear because God is covering us:

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;  There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation."

      Prayer

Father God in Jesus name, Lord we praise your Holy name. We come to you and ask for Your mercy and we rebuke the spirit of fear. We walk in the protection of Psalm 91, We don't fear the arrow by night, the terror by day. Nor the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor the destruction that wasteth at noonday. Though a thousand shall fall at my side and ten thousand at my right hand, it shall not come nigh me. Because we've made You Lord our refuge, even the Most High our habitation; we know that no evil shall befall us, neither shall any plague come near us, our families or our dwelling places. For you've give your angels charge over me and over us to keep us and cover us in all our ways. They shall bear us up in their hands. Satisfy us with long life, Lord, we pray. Protect us, preserve us and keep us. Forgive us from all our sins. We rebuke the demons of coronavirus and we rebuke those trying to make people afraid and causing them to live in fear. We are covered in the name and blood of Jesus. Keep us free from all harm, every danger, sickness and disease including coronavirus and keep us free from all evil. No harm come near our dwelling places and no evil shall befall us. We decree and declare we receive peace, healing, forgiveness, love, power and a sound mind - not fear, not anger, not hatred or bitterness. Come to us now and aid us we pray, in Jesus's mighty name, Amen.

Keep reading your Bible and stay encouraged. There are all kinds of plagues, fires and earthquakes occuring in these last days. However, these are not indications that the world is ending. The Bible refers to this as the Beginning of Sorrows. It's an indication that Jesus is coming back soon.

      The Prayer of Salvation

If you haven't said the Prayer of Salvation, now's the best time. Just say: Father God in the name of Jesus, Lord, I ask forgiveness of my sins. Please come into my heart, Lord. I turn my back on sin and I make you my Lord and Savior. I want to follow you for the rest of my life. Please give me eternal life through you in Jesus name, Amen.

Or, if you're already saved, but turned your back on God. Now's the perfect time to make things right. Don't let the devil make you feel bad about your past mistakes any longer. In Christ, you're a new creation and you have a Father God who loves you. Old things are passed away and God remembers the sin no more. Won't you please come back home to Him?

Rededicate Your Life to Christ Prayer

If you need to rededicate your life to Christ because you feel like you've been sinning or haven't been living right, pray: Father God in the name of Jesus, I ask forgiveness of my sins and I turn my back on sin. Please help me to overcome ---- and I want to lead a better life through you. I decree and declare this day I have overcome ---- and I have the victory in Jesus name, Amen.

Stay in God's shadow, stay away from sin and temptation, keep reading your Bible and keep seeking God first.
