Focus on Jesus: It Will Get Better...

When it's cold outside, do you miss riding your bike? I love riding my bike so much I have an indoor bike. While it let's me exert energy and burn calories, it's not like having a mountain bike or a road bike outside. You can feel the wind on your face and go as fast as you want. But, you have to focus on the direction you're going in. And, here's a great reason why.

Focus On Where You're Going, Not What's Going On Around You

I met a lady once who was in a bad bike accident. One side of her body had cuts, scrapes, and scratches. She explained that she was riding down a trail and thought she saw a bear. When she turned to see where the bear was, she missed part of the trail and slid down a hill. There she was, covered in bruises on only one side of her body. She was sore, but smiled and said, "At least the bear didn't get me." It reminded me that when you ride it's important to focus on where you're going. And, with this season, you have to do the same thing.

In our December Newsletter, we included 2 letters from the Holy Spirit and another will be out soon. The Newsletter includes the message, Everything in the Details. It mentioned Peter walking on water to Jesus. Like focusing on where you're going with your bike, Peter had to focus on forward, too. He had to fix his eyes on Jesus.

We're in a season where the devil is trying to be distracting and he's trying to get your eyes off God any way he can. But, how can you focus on Jesus when everything around us in turmoil and there's so much fear, hate, and anger?

It's simple. Walk away. Don't go by what you "see" or the enemy's attacks. Keep your focus on Jesus.

Here are a few scriptures to help you:

  • There were fires in California and a tsunami in Indonesia. People are worried about severe weather. But, remember, Jesus spoke peace to the storms. He says, "Be anxious for nothing," and "Come to me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest."Matthew 11:28
  • On the news the White House is in turmoil. There are talks of a recession. The stock market is crashing (The Holy Spirit said that in the December Newsletter). But, Jesus is saying, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27
  • Racism is being displayed more. People are being targeted for their religion, race, or social class. But, the Bible says, "God is no respecter of persons" and "God supplies all our needs." Jesus said, "Love one another" and "What you do to the least of these, you do to me." And, "No weapons formed against you shall prosper."
  • People are being laid off. Or, employers are trying underhanded moves to steal their income. But, Jesus says, "I came that they might have life and have it more abundantly," and God says, "I am a just God."

God Knows the Way - Go Where He Leads

Wayne Gretzky was once asked how he became such a great ice hockey player. He said that he goes to to direction where the puck will be going, not where it's been.

Football players do this, too. The wide receiver has to go in the direction where the quarterback is throwing the ball - even if he changes direction at the last minute. And, this year feels like there were so many "last minute" changes, it's been hard to keep up.

How can you keep running when you don't know where the ball or the puck is going? How can you stay on track with God when it looks things are spinning out of control? It's simple. Keep your focus on Jesus. It will get better. God is shifting the atmosphere.

God's Hidden Paths for You

I had a dream about a car once. It was a black sedan that was going around a very narrow curve somewhere in California overlooking the Pacific Ocean. As the car was making the turns, I saw the land falling away. Literally, the ground, sand, soil and the earth was collapsing. Seeing this in the dream, I got out and asked the driver if it was okay to stay on the road. He said, "Yes, of course" or something to that effect and then showed me. Underneath the sand and dirt, there was a ramp that was secure enough for the car to pass and we made it over.

No matter what you're going through or what you see, God has hidden paths that we don't know about. Just like the Children of Israel crossing the water - God makes a way out of no way. That means don't fear, don't worry and don't doubt. And, here's how I know why this is true firsthand.

When You Take Your Eyes Off Jesus

The funniest thing happened to me. I was trying to "work the Word." You know, believing you have it, moving in that direction, and focusing only on what I wanted to come to pass.

I read in the Bible where Jesus said to focus on the light. See the light as God and Jesus and channel all your light, thoughts, and energy into that direction. This has to work because Jesus wouldn't say that we would do greater works than He did without evidence. Jesus describes it as, "The light of the body is the eye." He's not saying the eyes we see with but our spirit. He goes on to say, "Therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, they body also is full of darkness." This is from Luke 1134.

In order to achieve what Jesus describes, there should be no distractions, no negative external influences, and no doubts. You only think positive thoughts and only focus on God's Word. Like Jesus said, "Believe you have it already and it shall be yours." And, it was working! Until I looked down.

I started telling someone about what I "didn't want to happen" and "my doubts" and sure enough, my plans fell apart. I realized I had to keep my full attention on Jesus and not look around at all. And, there was my light bulb moment. If we can focus on Jesus we can do the miraculous. But, the devil MUST know this. Otherwise, he wouldn't try to distract us so much, right?

However you see it, trust God and keep looking at Jesus - even when it looks like things are getting more chaotic or worse. You can be confident in God. The Bible states, The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous go in and they are safe (Proverbs 18:10).

To God be the glory! The devil can't touch us! Look out for our other letter.

Don't Live in Fear - Walk By Faith

Right now, someone is afraid. Afraid about going back to work, afraid over the stock market or White House.  They're afraid of the news or they're afraid over the bills piling up. They might also be afraid over the job they need or that good medical report they're waiting on. Trust God.

Trust God and watch and see Him work on your behalf. As you prepare for the new year and new season, pray and ask God to renew your mind. Then find a scripture that is the answer to your prayer. Write it down. Memorize it. Tape it to the bathroom mirror. Tape it in your car and adhere it to your desk. Speak it everyday and wait on God. That's all that's required. God just wants us to hold onto His Word, not live in fear. He wants us to use our faith and hold onto Him.

Know That You Are Not Alone

It can be so hard to end the year in fear. You' might be unsure or uncertain. You might be thinking "How can I pay these bills now?" "What do I do when my job is threatening me and I feel like I don't have a way out?" "How do I get through this season when it looks like things are getting worse?"

That's where you have to look to God. He said in the Bible, "Never will I leave you nor forsake you." The Bible also says "Cast your cares on Him and He will sustain you." Look for the windows God provides. He HAS to provide windows and doors for His us or we'd give up. If you're unsure, ask God for a sign and He will help you.

Ultimately, the entire Body of Christ is "going through" a big change and transition right now. So, don't feel like it's only you or that it won't end. God is about to do something mighty for His people. The Holy Spirit had us include 2 letters in our December Newsletter. Just hold onto God's unchanging Word and know He will ALWAYS make the way! Stay encouraged. God loves you so much and great things are in store!
