Have Faith... God's Got It.
Do you ever feel like you're trying to do your best, serving God, praying, obeying the scriptures and still you get hit with a bunch of nonsense? Don't worry. You are not alone. A lot of Christians are being tested, but our job is to stand in position and trust God. Remember, many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers us from them all! He is a God of favor and no weapons formed against you shall prosper. But what do you do when it looks like everything is falling apart around you and out of your control?
When it looks like everything is falling apart...
I remember taking my mom on vacation once. I prayed and asked God for help, to line everything up and make the way - and He did. But then it looked like everything was falling apart. The lady on my flight was coughing on me. A child a few seats up coughed on me. I ended up with bronchitis. Our hotel room was bug infested then we moved to another hotel room that was bug infested, too. I stubbed my toe hard and it hurt for days. My mom had a weird rash on her neck and itched for days. It got to the point where I said, "Whoa! Lord, what is happening? I prayed. I spoke over this trip. Why is this happening to me?" Then I met a bellhop at one of the hotels who said, "Take your thoughts captive." I didn't understand what he meant and he explained that for Christians, we know we will have the victory, but we also have to get up everyday and push on despite what the devil is trying to do. The devil is out to rob, kill, steal and destroy, but we as believers can't let that stop us.
Today is a new day
On one of my toughest days, someone wrote on our Facebook page, "Today is a new day," and I knew it was a reminder that you can't focus on the attacks of the enemy. You have to see that you overcame. When I think back to that trip, there's something that I didn't mention. I prayed before the trip and asked God to let us be a blessing to people. Apparently I didn't realize that words like that set the devil off and that's why we were hit with so many obstacles. We were trying to be a blessing and the devil was trying to defeat us. And here's how I know we have to stand firm and be unmovable and unshakeable...
The concert and Fred Hammond's message
I took my mom to the Festival of Praise concert and it was an outdoor event, rain or shine - with no umbrellas allowed. I planned in advance and bought those really long rain slickers, knowing we wouldn't need them and guess what? It rained on the way to the concert. We were wearing our Sunday best and had our hair done, new clothes on and open toe shoes. As we got out of the cab and the rain was pouring I prayed and told the Holy Spirit, "I'm taking my mother for revival and the devil can't stop us." I was also worrying that I had made a mistake bringing my mother out in the rain like this, as I saw people running for cover. We had several flights of stairs to climb and our feet were soaking wet, but then a strange thing happened. As we climbed the last section of stairs to reach the seating area and gripped tightly onto the railing so we wouldn't slip in our wet shoes, my mom suddenly said, "I hear Fred."
The concert had just begun and Fred Hammond walked on stage and said that he had been sick for a week. Regina Belle had been sick for a week. Casey J wouldn't be performing. But then Fred Hammond said something interesting. He said that while they had to cancel over the past few nights, he KNEW he had to be here THIS night because of the anointing and the people praying for a move from God. We could feel the anointing in the audience because we were having church! There were so many prayer warriors that suddenly the skies opened up and were so clear. The rain stopped and people took off their rain ponchos and danced! As we left the concert after amazing performances by Fred Hammond, Israel Houghton, Hezekiah Walker, Regina Belle and Karen Clark Sheared, Hezekiah Walker said something amazing. He said, "God blessed us with rain. He sent the rain." I didn't see it that way at the time. I saw it as a deterrent from the devil to try to stop us from attending, but always know Beloved, that what the devil means for harm, God works in our favor, and as Fred Hammond sang, we're blessed, blessed, blessed. We're blessed in the city. We're blessed in the fields. We're blessed when we come and when we go! Take your thoughts captive and know that God will work it out in your favor! Trust God!
